Why Ticket Atelier began as a security product
Ticket Atelier did not begin as ticketing software, but as a security product. It started with a research question from a large museum that we cannot name because of a confidentiality agreement. Not that the name matters much to the story. At the time, the museum used the ticketing software of a provider we will leave unnamed. During a fire safety drill, far more people left the building than had been scanned on the way in.
That discrepancy stayed with us. Deep in that system's transaction logs, we discovered that an entire category of sales never made it into the reports, and so had never been paid out. In the end, we were able to recover more than several hundred thousand euros in lost revenue. Our conclusion was simple: if it happens here, it surely happens elsewhere.
We started building a double-entry bookkeeping check for checkout and ticketing and pitched it to museums and attractions we knew. Yet we could not sell it: only when something really goes wrong, the sentiment went, is there room to invest. After all, even a free solution costs internal time.
Surprised, we went back to the drawing board. If we were going to look at checkout and ticketing again anyway, we might as well make it better straight away. From that analysis grew the plan for a complete and accessible ticketing and checkout platform for the cultural sector, which we began building together with Teylers Museum.
We also believe that innovation is not reserved for large organisations alone. That is why we offer cultural institutions a special cultural rate, so that modern ticketing remains within reach for the whole sector.
Choosing Ticket Atelier means choosing more than software: a dedicated team that thinks along with you, acts quickly and feels responsible for a system you can rely on every day.
Finally, we would like to thank Teylers Museum in particular. As the first museum, they gave us the confidence to develop Ticket Atelier in practice and dared to build alongside us from the very start. That trust has played an important part in the development of Ticket Atelier.
On behalf of the whole team, I would like to thank you for your interest in Ticket Atelier. We look forward to building the future of your organisation together.
